FAQS

WHAT IS A GREET LIKE?
There are no strict rules about what a ‘greet’ should look like. Every greet will be arranged two to three hours walks according to the interest of the guest and the Greeter´s special topic. Please note: We Greeters are volunteers and offer our service when it seems a “good match” and we “feel like it”. We meet our guests at eye level and try to take their background into account. In that way, guests may become friends.

Who can meet a Greeter?
Meeting a Greeter is free and all visitors are welcome without any kind of discrimination, since the programs Greeters support a type of sustainable and participatory tourism.

You use our application form (the more you tell us about you, the more the meeting with the Greeter will be an exciting experience!) at least 2 to 3 weeks before arriving in Tehran.
The distribution team sends your request to all Greeters on the list. When a Greeter feels that a request “fits”, he or she tells the distribution team.
They then give that Greeter’s mail-address to the guest.

From then on guest and Greeter make their own personal arrangements (time, place, suggestions etc.).
In the rare case that no Greeter is available, we unfortunately have to turn down the request.

Can I request a greeter for weekdays?
Yes, you can.

For how many days can I request a greeter?
You may request a greeter for one day and an alternative day. However, we cannot guarantee the availability of a greeter for either of the days that you request.

I am currently 17. Can I book a greeter?
If you are under 18 years old, please find an adult person to accompany you.

HOW MUCH DOES A GREET COST?
A greet does not cost you anything. Meeting a Greeter means to meet a friend … who you haven’t known that you had in Tehran and friends do not ask you to pay! The Greeters offer a voluntary service completely free of charge, in line with the core values of the Global Greeters Network

HOW DO YOU FIND THE RIGHT GREETER FOR ME?
Based on the information you provide us when requesting a Greet, we try to find the best possible Greeter for you. As soon as the greeter confirms the request, we will send you the necessary contact information and you receive an acceptance e-mail from TG to make an arrangement about date, time, and place of meeting. A copy goes to the Greeter. From that time on, guest and Greeter are on their own. In case we cannot find a fitting Greeter or he/she has no time, we will send you a cancellation.

You sent a request for a visit but received a refusal, why?

We sincerely apologize to reject any requests, but we are still a few volunteers and unfortunately sometimes we cannot cover all the meetings. We are working to improve our organization and we need your help and your understanding!

How can I change or cancel my request?
You can contact our staff at the email tehrangreeters@gmail.com and cancel/modify your meeting with a Greeter. It is very important for us to know as soon as possible if you wish to cancel your meeting because we are still few and all ordinary citizens who offer our free time to welcome you and make you feel at home.

HOW TO CONTACT MY GREETER?
As soon as we have found a Greeter fitting to a certain request, the guest receives all the necessary contact information (name, phone number, and e-mail-address) to make an arrangement about date, time and place of meeting. A copy goes to the Greeter.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM SIZE OF A GROUP?
All of our Greeters are volunteers and follow an individual and spontaneous „walk with a friend“ philosophy. This is why we limited the maximum group size to six persons. we cannot serve larger groups that have been divided into smaller groups. A visit can be up to 6 people including children and adult. Always remember that we are just friends walking together through the city!
